Fayetteville police arrested a man Tuesday (Aug. 6) in connection with a weekend stabbing.

Javier Vera-Jurado, 30, of Fayetteville, is facing charges of Battery First Degree, Aggravated Assault, Domestic Battery 3rd Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor 2nd Degree.

Officers responded to an area near the intersection of North Sang Avenue and West Lawson Street early Saturday morning (Aug. 3).

Police officials said a man returning home from an outing with his girlfriend and infant child was driving on Sang when he saw Vera-Jurado and woman having some sort of dispute at the intersection at approximately midnight. The man got out of his car to help the woman in ‘good Samaritan fashion,’ police said, when the other man began to physically assault him.

The victim left the altercation and returned to his car where he noticed he had been stabbed. He told police he thought the man, whom he described an Hispanic about 5-foot-7, had been punching him.

The victim identified Vera-Jurado through a photo lineup. In an interview with officers, Vera-Jurado admitted to pulling a pocket knife out and wielding it at the victim, according to a police report.

The injured man drove himself to Washington Regional Medical Center. He had two stab wounds to his abdomen and one to his thigh, but none of the injuries were life-threatening police said.
