Springdale police are investigating a possible homicide after responding to a 62-year-old man's home late Friday night.
Emergency crews responded to Edward Charles Abel's home on East Brown Road at 11:15 p.m. and found him unresponsive. He was transported to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, where he later died, according to the Springdale Police Department.
Police said Abel was the victim of an assault prior to officers being called to the home.
"I don't know if it was an isolated case, just someone after him," said neighbor Diane Powell. "I don't think they believed in banks so I think most of their money and valuables were in the house."
Abel's body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.
