It's been compared to a combination of a beauty pageant and body building contest… for cows.

The Washington County Fairgrounds hosted a breeding beef judging with kids from five years old to 19.

Mason Walker and his sister Whitney spent the day getting their calf “Spooky” ready for the judging. They groomed her with an adhesive, which is like really strong hairspray to give her that fluffy look.

“It's kind of like a beauty pageant for cows,” Walker said. “You want to make them look their best. We have to use numerous adhesives to try to make them look pretty.  It takes quite a bit of time clipping, but it's basically trying to make them look their best."

Walker is 14, nationally ranked and a fourth generation showman. Every participant is from Washington County from local clubs and 4H groups.
