A mother was cited by police Thursday afternoon after allegedly leaving her five children inside a hot car, according to Springdale police.

Police and fire crews responded at 3:52 p.m. to the Springdale Early Childhood Center after people at the location noticed five children were left in a Chevrolet Tahoe while the mother went inside. Police said the children were in the hot vehicle for about 15 minutes.

Emergency crews checked out the kids, but no one was hospitalized. The mother was cited by authorities on suspicion of five counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. She was given her children back, but Springdale police reported the incident to the state police child abuse unit, according to the Springdale Police Department.

Springdale High School’s resource officer initially responded to the incident. The windows of the vehicle were at least partially down, police said.
