Oklahoma was without starting quarterback Trevor Knight Saturday when it hosted Tulsa.

But Blake Bell looked like he may have stolen the starting job.

Bell broke the school record for passing yards in a player’s first start as the Sooners hammered Tulsa 51-20 in Norman. Bell threw for 413 yards and four scores while completing 27-of-37 passes without an interception.

Oklahoma (3-0) wasted little time jumping on the Golden Hurricanes (1-2) as they scored on their first possession then Bell hit Jaz Reynolds on a slant that went for 82 yards on the Sooners next drive, leading to a field goal.

Bell had touchdown passes of 3, 29, 35 and 25 yards in the rout with two of those scores comign from Sterling Shepard. Shepard led the Sooners with eight catches for 123 yards while Reynolds had four catches for 109 yards. Roy Finch led the Sooners ground game with 68 yards but OU was without running back Damien Williams.

The Sooners will have a bye week before traveling to South Bend, Ind. and taking on Notre Dame on Sept. 28.
