13-Year-Old Hit By Pickup, Flown To Missouri Hospital

A 13-year-old junior high school student was flow by helicopter to a Springfield, Mo., hospital after being hit by a pickup Tuesday morning (Sept. 24) at West Sunset Avenue and Dyer Street in Springdale, authorities said.

The child was conscious and alert after the accident and was being treated by Springdale firefighters when police officers arrived at the scene, according to a Springdale Police Department news release.

The Southwest Junior High student was crossing Sunset about 8 a.m. on his way to school when he was hit by a Dodge Dakota pickup traveling westbound, police said.

The student was taken first to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale before being flown to Missouri, authorities said.

He suffered a broken knee and a fractured skull, according to his principal Brice Wagner.

The student's father arrived after the accident and was escorted to the Springdale hospital by police, the news release states.

Accident investigators found no moving violations, and the driver was not cited, according to the news release.
