State Rep. Sue Scott, R-Rogers, announced Thursday (Oct. 3) she is seeking re-election to a second two-year term in House District 95.

“I’ve been a conservative voice and if lucky enough to be re-elected, I will continue to insist on smaller government and fewer regulations,” she said in a news release.

During the 2013 session, Scott attempted to pass legislation that would have allowed Arkansans to carry handguns openly in holsters, but two of her open-carry bills, which faced opposition from House Speaker Davy Carter, R-Cabot, died in committee.

Scott once joked that she hoped her stance on the open-carry issue wouldn’t require her to change her Yahoo e-mail address from grandmotherscott@yahoo.com to grandmothergunslinger@yahoo.com.

Scott recently told 5NEWS she is unsure whether she would introduce another open-carry bill in the 2015 session.

Also running in the district is Bella Vista Republican Dane Zimmerman, CEO and founder of Ambassador Transportation Services and a staff sergeant in the Arkansas Army National  Guard.

Candidates from the same party square off in the May 2014 primary election, with the winners advancing to the general election in November.

In the 2012 election, Scott captured more than 61 percent of the vote in defeating Mark Moore, an Independent candidate.

Scott is married to Benton County Circuit Court Judge John R. Scott.
