Zachary Porter, 18, a teen accused of robbing a bank, made his first court appearance this morning when he was told why he was in jail.

He faces charges of aggravated robbery and terroristic threatening and his next court date is Nov. 8.

Police responded at about 4:31 p.m. to Metropolitan National Bank in Fayetteville in reference to a bank robbery. Officers arrived three minutes later.

Officers were told that a man walked into the bank and handed the teller a note implying he had a bomb, according to Fayetteville police.

Investigators said the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and was later apprehended by police on Persimmon Street.

Sgt. Craig Stout said police didn’t find a bomb and no one was hurt.

Porter was taken to the Washington County Detention Center.

Porter received a bond of $50,000 in the Washington County Detention Center on Thursday (Oct. 10), according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said Porter told them he needed money for rent. But Porter’s roommate does not buy that.

“I know he is supposed to pay us $150 every two weeks, and it is coming up where he is to do one payment,” roommate Marty White said. “But, I did tell him as long as he had a job, we would take care of the bills till the 1st and he could just give it to us in full with his first check.”

Meanwhile, White is saddened by the incident and said Porter had a job interview with Taco Bell on Thursday.

“He just turned 18. He’s still a kid. He is young and dumb and he ruined his life.”
