The fourth suspect in a Fayetteville house shooting from earlier this month was arrested Tuesday by local police.
Devin Johnson, 24, faces charges of aggravated residential burglary, first-degree battery, engaging in violent criminal group activity and theft of property, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
Johnson, of Huntsville, remained Tuesday in the Washington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
The victims in the home invasion that turned into a shooting identified Johnson in a police photo lineup. Detectives contacted Johnson, who came to the police department for questioning. Johnson allegedly initially denied involvement, but later admitted to taking part in the burglary, police said.
Police said Johnson and Michael Schur, 26, broke into a home at 3216 Warwick Drive on Oct. 11 in order to steal marijuana from Schur’s ex-girlfriend, who was living at the residence. Virgil Gulley, 24, answered the door with a gun before Schur and Johnson allegedly broke in wearing bandanas to cover their faces.
Gulley and Schur were wrestling over the gun when police said Mallory Britt, Schur’s ex-girlfriend, was shot in the left calf. She was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, where she was treated and released.
Schur was arrested following the shooting and faces charges of residential burglary and first-degree battery. He remained Tuesday in the Washington County Detention Center on $25,000 bond. His arraignment in the case is set for Nov. 15, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The victims in the home invasion, Gulley and Britt, were arrested five days later on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with the incident, after police said they found drugs in the couple’s home. Gulley, 24, was released from jail the same day on $5,000 bond because of an added potential charge of simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm. Britt was also released that day from jail on $2,500 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
During an interview with police, Schur initially denied being involved in the home invasion but later admitted to it, according to the preliminary report.
