White Tops Red 112-102 in Arkansas Basketball Scrimmage

The basketball Hogs had 214 combined points with ten players in double figures.

Arkansas basketball has the big question of replacing its two leading scores from a year ago. If Sunday’s Red-White scrimmage was any indication, they’ll be just fine. The White beat the Red 112-102.

True freshman Bobby Portis has added 24 pounds of muscle during the off-season and lived up to the hype during the scrimmage, grabbing five boards and putting up 18 points.  Alandise Harris is finally going to see action this year. He adds a strong presence in the post and showed off his skills tonight. He scored a game high 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds, something the team is excited about.

"He's like another weapon we need," said sophomore Jacorey Williams.  "He's an older guy, too, so there's leadership there as well. We also get the scoring, rebounding, physicality obviously."

Anthlon Bell and Fred Gulley both hit five three pointers finishing with 19 points and 24 points respectively. Jacorey Williams showed a lot of maturity on the court with a year under his belt, adding 19 points and getting high praises from coach.

"Skilled forward is what he is," said head coach Mike Anderson.  "I think he has a big time motor, he tweaked his ankle about two weeks ago and he's actually just now really coming around full circle on that ankle but he's hungry."

Coty Clarke was the only player with a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards showing his leadership as one of the seniors on the team.  Sophomore Michael Qualls continues to be the high flyer everyone knew him as last year but a year older means a year wiser.

"He's everywhere," said Anderson. "Whether it be blocked shots, rebounding, running the fast break, knocking shots down, kind of playing withing himself."

With a bigger team and a deeper bench, this season could be the turnaround everyone is looking for.

Arkansas's first exhibition game is Friday, Nov. 1 when they host Missouri Southern at 7:00 p.m.
