Broyles Inducted Into SWC Hall of Fame

Former Arkansas athletic director honored by former conference
Frank Broyles

Former Arkansas coach and athletic director Frank Broyles was a member of  the first Southwest Conference Hall of Fame class as he was inducted on Monday.

Broyles was one of nine members in the inaugural class. The SWC disbanded in 1996 after being one of the nation’s major conferences since 1914.

“We are pleased that Coach Broyles is being recognized for his contributions to the long-time success of the Southwest Conference and his positive influence on intercollegiate athletics,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “His accomplished career as a football coach, administrator and broadcaster helped bring recognition not only to the University of Arkansas, but also helped raise the national profile of the Southwest Conference. His induction is an opportunity to help celebrate the legacy of Coach Broyles and the long and storied history of the Razorbacks in the Southwest Conference.”

Broyles coached the Razorbacks from 1958-1976 and led Arkansas to their only national title in 1964. Broyles also won seven SWC titles and finished with a 144-58-5 record while at Arkansas.

Broyles was named the Men’s athletic director in 1974 and served in that role for 33 years before retiring in 2007.
