Jeff Long Says He’s Staying Put At UofA

Long states he is staying at Arkansas, after rumors surfaced that he was a finalist for the Texas AD job.

Reports surfaced on Sunday that University of Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long was expected to interview for the same position at the University of Texas.

Later in the evening, Long addressed the rumors on twitter, saying he is staying at Arkansas.

"I'm proud to be a Vice Chancellor and the Director of Athletics at the U of A. Further, I’m not seeking a position or engaged in the search process of another University. Chancellor Gearhart is a tremendous leader and a man of high integrity; it is a privilege to work for & with him. I have also great appreciation for the support of President Bobbitt & our Board of Trustees. Together we’ve made critically important decisions to advance our athletics program during my time with the U of A and will have more in the future. I am excited to lead this program and am energized by the prospects of providing the student-athletes and coaches. the facilities and resources they need to compete and excel at the SEC and national levels. Thanks for your support of the Hogs."

Sunday morning multiple reports surfaced, including one by Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News. He said there were three finalists interviewing for the Texas AD position. West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck, who is rumored to be a favorite, has already begun the interview process. Long was another candidate rumored to be on the list.

Long has been the AD at Arkansas since 2008 and was recently named the chairman of the College Football Playoff selection Committee for 2014.

Speaking to the local media at a press conference in October, Long stated that he had no desire to leave his position as the director of athletics at Arkansas, and that his new position as chairman of the playoff would not impede on his current job.

Long said to the media on Oct. 17: "I'm not interested in listening to anybody about anything. This is my job. This is a program I am excited to lead. Looking at what we've done the last five years, I'm very proud of that. And it will continue. We have a lot of work going on. We have a baseball and track facility to finish. We've got a basketball facility to build."

Each of those projects are in progress.
