Police arrested a Springdale woman early Sunday morning after she allegedly drunkenly stabbed her friend in an argument over who would sleep on the apartment’s couch.

Regina Sue Durant, 48, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree battery. She remained Sunday afternoon in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

She has a court date set for Monday, and her arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 16.

The alleged victim called police to Springdale Ridge Apartments on South 40th Street around 1 a.m., stating she had been stabbed. Eyewitnesses told police Durant had stabbed a woman in the knee following a night out drinking at a local bar, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

The altercation occurred after the suspect and alleged victim started arguing over who would spend the night on a couch in an apartment unit at the location. Eyewitnesses told officers that Duren began stabbing the woman near the knee in a downward motion with a small pocket knife, after which the alleged victim kicked Duren multiple times, the preliminary report states.

The woman was bleeding from her leg when officers responded to the scene. Police found the knife, which visibly still had blood on it, according to the report.

The victim was transported with apparently non-life-threatening injuries to the emergency room at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, along with the suspect, who complained to police that she was injured from having been kicked by the alleged victim, the report states.

Durant was checked out by doctors, then arrested and booked into the Washington County Detention Center. The reporting officer said the suspect was “very intoxicated”.
