An armed man who barricaded himself inside his Bella Vista house Thursday (Nov. 14) was taken into custody shortly after noon, as no one was injured in the police standoff.

Brian Patrick Murphy was transported to a local hospital, complaining of back pains, before being booked into the Benton County Jail on suspicion of civil contempt and resisting arrest, according to the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Keisha Guyll said negotiators had responded to the scene and began talking with the suspect around noon.

Murphy, 60, is going through a divorce. A property assessment group attempted to take pictures of the home, but Murphy would not allow that. Deputies were called in because of a court order, but Murphy still would not allow them inside. He took out a shotgun and started to threaten his life, authorities said.

After members of a SWAT team negotiated with Murphy, he peacefully turned himself in.

The whole ordeal seems to be over Murphy's marital life and impending divorce, according to investigators.
