What would you do if an elk decided to take an interest in you? By that I mean, antler to head action. In this now viral video, a photographer who set out to get some great shots of elk in the Cataloochee Valley of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park got more than he bargained for.

The elk in the center of this viral video was put down weeks after the incident. Reports show a spokesperson for the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Asheville, North Carolina said the one-and-a-half year old elk had become known for it’s unruly behavior. Reports go on to state the elk had prompted their involvement 28 times the month before.

The photographer states to the  media he is devastated by the news and stands firm that he was sitting on the road for an hour, and did not provoke the elk. Park officials content the elk was a problem waiting to happen.
