The River Valley Marine Corps League is collecting new, unwrapped toys in the Walmart parking lot on Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith this weekend (Nov. 29-Dec. 2) to distribute to less fortunate children in the area for Christmas.

This is the seventh year the organization is collecting donations for Toys For Tots, according to organizer Bob Rivera. Rivera said the group donated toys to more than 21,000 children in the River Valley in 2012.

Parents who are interested in applying to be a recipient of the donations may also apply at the donation station.

"If it's going to be between you buying Christmas dinner or buying toys, you buy the Christmas dinner, we'll help with the toys," said Rivera.

The Marines will be collecting toys until 9 a.m. Monday morning (Dec. 2). If people are unable to make it out to the Walmart parking lot this weekend, Rivera said donors may drop off toys at one of the many toy drop locations in the area.
