The Associated Press has named University of Arkansas running back Alex Collins the SEC Freshman of the Year.

Collins rushed for 1,026 yards and four touchdowns on 190 carries this season. Collins averaged 85.5 yards per game and was the first running back in SEC history to rush for 100 yards in the first three games of his career. He was also the first freshman in the country to accomplish that feat since Adrian Peterson in 2004.

Collins is the 10th SEC true freshman to rush for more than 1,00 yards in his first year. Darren McFadden is the only other Hog to do that. He rushed for 1,113 yards in 2005.

After McFadden’s 1,000-yard season as a freshman he led the SEC in rushing the next two seasons, win two Doak Walker Awards and was named an All-American twice.
