A Springdale man is behind bars after allegedly hitting his spouse in the face with a phone and assaulting her with a knife, after he suspected her of cheating on him. Police said three children were present during the fight.
Jesus Yzabel, 28, was arrested Monday night on suspicion of aggravated assault, domestic battery and forgery. He remained Tuesday in the Washington County Detention Center on $5,000 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
He has a Jan. 8 arraignment date, and a separate court date set for Dec. 11, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office states Yzabel caught his spouse texting another man and suspected she may be cheating on him. The two started arguing, and Yzabel broke the woman’s phone, the report states.
Yzabel then picked up the broken phone and hit the woman in the face with it, before punching her in the left cheek, headbutting her in the right eye on later assaulting her with a knife, according to the preliminary report.
The report states the suspect pointed a kitchen knife at the woman’s chest, sticking her in the chest and leaving “small knicks”, while yelling at her. He also poked her in the leg with a knife and forced her to perform a sex act on him, according to the preliminary report.
The woman’s mother later came to the home at 1101 N. Pleasant St. and picked up the three children who were present at the time of the altercation. The children allegedly told police they saw Yzabel punch the woman in the face and stick her with the knife, according to Springdale police.
Yzabel told police he headbutted his spouse, but denied all other allegations of physical contact, according to the preliminary report. Following an interview with police, Yzabel was arrested by Springdale police.
