While attending Mandela’s memorial service on Tuesday, President Obama posed for a “selfie” with the Danish and British Prime Ministers. Some people are claiming that the photo is inappropriate, while others believe it was a harmless gesture.

Roberto Schmidt, the Agence France-Presse photographer who captured the photo, stated in his blog post, “I captured the scene reflexively. All around me in the stadium, South Africans were dancing, singing and laughing to honour their departed leader. It was more like a carnival atmosphere, not at all morbid.”

Our sister station WTVR has details on the memorial speech Obama gave praising the “giant of history.”
