One person was hospitalized early Saturday (Dec. 21) after a rollover accident in Prairie Grove, an emergency dispatcher said.

The driver Nathaniel Walters, 35, whose four-door Honda sedan was submerged in a creek at 15131 Prairie Grove Lake Road at 6:30 a.m. The Washington County Sheriff's Office was notified around 8 a.m.

According to an incident report, Walters' car slid on Prairie Grove Lake Road, ripping through a fence and into the creek. Walters' head was the only part of his body out of the water and he was able to escape after 15 minutes.

He ran to Shannon Ready's house who took him to Washington Regional, according to the report.

"It appears to me that the gentlemen was coming around the curve, slid off in the ditch, rolled over on its top and submerged in the water," said Willie Leming, of Leming and Son Wrecker Service.

"When I arrived, the Prairie Grove Fire Department had pulled it back onto the edge of the road and made it easier for me to get it out," Leming said.

Crystal Bolinger lives next to the creek. She checked out the damage to the fence destroyed by the accident.

"We heard all the sirens going by this morning," Bolinger said. "We were wondering what was going on and my soon to be in laws just told me that a lot of wrecks happen on this road."

Bolinger said she wishes the driver a quick recovery.

"We're praying for him, whoever he is, we just hope he's OK," Bolinger.

Leming said, "It's a miracle the young man got out as well as he did."

Walters had minor injuries to his hand since he tried to bust the window to get out of the vehicle.
