The Arkansas State Police responded to a handful of accidents in Northwest Arkansas Tuesday morning (Jan. 7) because of icy streets. However, no major injuries were reported.

Even though drivers saw slick spots in the region, road conditions are improving. The secondary streets are seeing the most issues. However, temperatures expected to be in the 30s will help melt some of the snow and ice.

During the past winder storm in December 2013, road crews and the Arkansas Highway Department received criticism for its response.

Karen Gatlin said she's still sees issues on Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale and Lowell Road.

"The highway is good, 540, but on the side roads no, we slid a couple of times this morning," Gatlin said.

Alayna Timberlake, who lives in Neosho, MO, said her drive was smoother this time.

"I was able to put my cruise on this time, which I wasn't able to do that last time," Timberlake said. "The roads were a lot clearer, I was able to get here about 45 minutes faster than the last snow storm."

For this snow fall, the highway department bought new equipment including a belly plough they are using to clear the roads.
