Sebastian County fire officials confirm to 5NEWS that on Saturday night (Jan. 18) they were still battling a large brush fire, just south of Bonanza on Highway 45.

By 2p.m. Saturday, crews blocked traffic in the area as the fire continued to grow.

According to firefighters on scene, the fire has burned at least 100 acres, so far.

“When the fire started the wind was blowing hard. We had trouble accessing the fire because there’s no roads in or out so we had to use bulldozers and at this time we are just trying to stop it at the fire line,” said firefighter Jim Carter.

No structures are affected and no word on how the fire started.

At least eight different fire departments, including the forestry department are working to put out any hot spots, officials said.
