Springdale-based Tyson Foods has acquired Bosco’s Pizza, which produces stuffed breadsticks and frozen pizzas, according to a Tyson news release on Monday (Jan. 20).

The move, completed Jan. 18, is part of Tyson’s “strategic plan to grow our domestic prepared foods business,” according to Donnie King, Tyson’s president of prepared foods.

“Bosco’s will be a good addition to our diversified portfolio of quality food offerings,” he said in the news release.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but, according to the the news release, the pizza maker’s approximately 150 employees will become members of Tyson Foods’ Prepared Foods division. However, the Warren, Mich.-based Bosco’s, which makes “The Original Bosco Stick,” will continue to operate under its current name.

Bosco’s began as a carry-out pizzeria in 1988 and began making frozen stuffed-crust pizza, and soon stuffed breadsticks, in 1995, according to the news release.

“This is a great opportunity for the Bosco’s brand,” said Craig Mulhinch, vice president of Bosco’s sales and marketing. “We’ve put a lot of effort into creating high-quality products, and Tyson Foods has recognized that. This deal will allow us to accelerate our growth while we continue to focus on the fundamentals of making excellent artisan bread products. We’re excited about joining the Tyson team.”
