Jake Toupal doesn't shock crowds with highlight reel dunks or ridiculous blocked shots.
But the senior guard always seems to find a way to get the ball in the UAFS basket.
Toupal broke George Stojanovic's career scoring record earlier this season but the numbers don't matter to the guard.
"I knew I was probably getting close but I didn't even know that I had passed it already," Toupal said. "Well I just have a special kind of game. I’m not super athletic but I just do what I can to help the team win."
Toupal has been the model of consistency for the Lions over the past four seasons and is a big reason UAFS is in the hunt for a Heartland Conference title.
"When Jake first stepped out on the floor as a freshman he averaged 12 points a game," UAFS coach Josh Newman said. "He was freshman of the year and since then he’s been an all-league player every year and he’s average 12 points a game, every game since the day he stepped on the floor."
UAFS could take a big step towards a conference championship as they host Texas A&M-International tonight at the Stubblefield Center.
"I’m really excited. We’ve been looking forward to this since we played them in December so it’s going to be a fun night," Toupal said.
Toupal has 1,219 career points in 98 career games, an average of 12.4 per game. The Broken Arrow, Okla. native has hit 203 3-pointers in his career.
UAFS is 8-1 since the first meeting with the Dustdevils. The Lions are tied for second place with St. Mary's in the Heartland Conference. UAFS host both TAMI and St. Mary's over the next three days.
"Two huge games," Newman said. "Obviously I think our guys are excited. I think the community is excited and we’re going to need everybody’s energy tonight to get this win."
