Voting is well underway in both Sequoyah County and Leflore County today for a few different elections.

In Leflore county, residents are voting for a school board position with the Poteau Public School District. Running for the position are two candidates: Sally Ann Hutchinson and William C. Pickle, Jr.

Also on the ballot for the Poteau Public School District are two propositions.

Proposition number one is whether or not the school district will issue bonds in the sum of $975,000 to provide funds for the purpose of constructing, equipping, repairing, and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

Proposition number two is whether or not the school district will issue bonds in the sum of $640,000 to provide funds for the purpose of purchasing transportation equipment.

In Sequoyah County, the city of Sallisaw is voting on two positions: mayor and chief of police.

Two candidates are running for the office of mayor: incumbent mayor Shannon Vann and challenger Julie Ferguson.

Two candidates are also seeking the position of chief of police: Terry Franklin and Sandy Girdner.

Sallisaw residents are also voting on a school board position for the Central Public School District. Seeking that position are Greg Walton and Charles Cloud.

Residents of Muldrow are voting on a school board position with the Muldrow Public School District. Running for the position are Alan Crosland and Dowen Green.

A school board seat with the Gore Public School District is being voted on as well. Seeking that position are Duane Hunt, Jr. and Cody Sloan.

Polling for both counties closes at 7 pm tonight.
