The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation District Four Headquarters has received notice from one of their contractors of upcoming lane closures, according to a news release put out today.

These closures are associated with work to construct a turn lane and crossover in the median of Highway 71, as well as, to construct ramp tie-ins with the highway between Greenwood and Fort Smith.

Starting Monday (Feb. 24), lane closures may be expected in the northbound or southbound directions of the highway between the Elmwood Cutoff and Howard HIll Road north of Greenwood.

Work will be concentrated on this portion in an effort to minimize impacts to motorists, according to the news release.

“Adjustment of the times of any announced lane closures may become necessary due to weather or other unforeseen conditions,” the news release stated.

In October, 2012, the Arkansas Highway Commission awarded a contract worth $22,649,692.08 to APAC-Tennessee, Inc from Memphis.

The project will include paving of future I-49 main lanes and ramps, as well as constructing median crossover, traffic signals, a turning lane, and ramp tie-ins at Highway 71 north of Greenwood.

The project will also include constructing ramp tie-ins at Highway 22 near Barling. The work is expected to be completed in late 2014.
