Huber Named Heartland Women’s Freshman of Year

Prairie Grove native led Lady Lions in both scoring in rebounding during first year on campus
Justyne Huber

This time last season Justyne Huber was dominating 4A Arkansas basketball. Fast forward a year and she just wrapped up dominating the division II ranks.

Huber, a Prairie Grove native, was named the Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year after leading UAFS in both scoring (11.8 ppg) and rebounds (7.0). Huber also earned honorable mention to the all-conference team.

“We had to play her out of position at post a lot, and she was our most consistent player, especially for a freshman,” UAFS coach Louis Whorton said. “She led us in scoring and rebounding and was second in minutes played. Anytime you can get that out of freshman that is a sign of a pretty good player.”

Huber scored a career high 21 points against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin on Jan. 30.

UAFS finished the season 9-17.
