Crews working on Don Tyson Interchange project started installing bridge girders in the overnight hours, which closed one lane to traffic.

The lane closures are from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. Crews also stop traffic for 15 minutes at a time from midnight to 5 a.m. to keep workers safe.

"I'm really excited they decided to put it in the evening because the effect on traffic is a lot less evident," said Sarah Barton who travels on the interstate when she gets off from work at David's Bridal.

She said that the end product will be worth the traffic jams.

"Whatever we have to do to make this are more viable to businesses and to make commuting back and forth to work easier I'm all for that, so this is a small sacrifice," Barton said.

The Don Tyson Interchange will be built between exit 69 in Johnson and exit 72 in Springdale.

"It will be a lot faster to get into that area," said Robert Balcom, who drives on the interstate often.

The bridge girders should be installed in about three weeks. The entire Don Tyson Interchange project is expected to be complete by fall 2014.
