A south Fayetteville duplex was damaged in a fire early Friday (March 14), officials said.

No one was hurt in the incident about 10:45 a.m. at 574 S. Sang Ave., according to fire officials. A neighbor phoned in the incident. No one was home in the unit that caught fire, official said.

The fire, which started in the living room around a set of stairs, went out on its own due to the lack of oxygen and amount of smoke in the unit, officials said.

Firefighters broke through the from door to enter the unit and then knocked out windows to vent the building, officials said.

Damage was estimated between $10,000 to $15,000, officials said.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
