Road Extension to Help Ease West Fayetteville Traffic

The proposed project is aimed at widening Rupple Rd. to four lanes and then extending the road to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The Fayetteville City Council will decide on a road extension project tonight(March 18).

The project is aimed at widening Rupple Rd. to four lanes and then extending the road to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. near the base of Mount Kessler.

City officials hope extension would give west Fayetteville drivers an easier way to get from Wedington Dr. to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

One of the main concerns is that it may be risky to build additional lanes, before the extension is needed.

"What the traffic study says is that when the initial project is initially completed that two lanes will be adequate", said city engineer Chris Brown, "but as development occurs and time passes at some point the road will not be adequate with two lanes."

The City Council meeting is tonight at 6:00 p.m. in Fayetteville.
