The 38th annual Hogeye Marathon takes place Sunday morning, but a few more events happened Saturday.

The Kid's Marathon took place at 2 p.m. at the Kohl's in Fayetteville. Children in grades K-8 were invited to participate in a 2.3 mile run.

The Running Expo also took place on the second floor of the Chancellor Hotel. The expo featured booths with sponsors of the race.

Saturday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. was a pasta dinner for runners who registered for the meal. In attendance was motivational speaker and marathon runner Dick Beardsley.

For anyone still wanting to register for the race, there is late registration happening the day of the race. Anyone that wants to sign up can do so from 5:45 a.m. to 7 a.m. at the Chancellor Hotel.

The full marathon is open to males and females 15 years of age and older, but participant's under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian's signature.

There will also be a half marathon, 4 person relay and a 5K run/walk happening Sunday morning.

The race will start at the Fayetteville Square at 7:30 a.m. Timing will end six and a half hours from the start. The race will end at the Walton Arts Center.

All of the trails around Lake Fayetteville will be closed during the race. Holmes urged those who usually walk or bike the trails on Sunday to come out anyways as supporters.

"We need a lot of volunteers out on the course, we could still use people even if they don't know what to do...if they would just go out and cheer people on," Holmes said.

Local police will be barricading certain roads tomorrow from 7:30 a.m. to around 1 p.m. The most traveled of those is Drake Street, in between Garland Avenue and Gregg Avenue. For a more detailed look at the routes, click here for the map.

"We would like to thank the public for having a little bit of patience and would like to let everyone know that this is a charitable event and they can make a donation to one of the charities on our website," Holmes said.
