Sunday morning the 38th annual Hogeye Marathon took place, starting at the Fayetteville square at 7:30 a.m. and ending at the Walton Art Center.
Nearly 1700 people participated in the 5K, four person relay, half marathon and full marathon. The winner of the men's division for the full marathon was Jonathon Pillow from Oklahoma City.
"It's the first time I've won a full marathon so I was pretty happy with it...it was a great day, great weather, good course," Pillow said.
The women's division winner was also from Oklahoma city.
"It's a really pretty run, a lot prettier than marathons I've run before in the past with the scenery...everybody's really nice and friendly," said Beth Cooper.
Both marathon winners used the hilly course of the Hogeye Marathon to better prepare for an upcoming race- the Boston Marathon in three weeks.
Holmes was very happy with the turnout and felt the weather played a big factor. She also was pleased with the raving reviews people have given the city of Fayetteville.
"I've had nothing but good comments so far, everybody's just very thrilled with Fayetteville and the volunteers and how friendly they are...so thank you to Fayetteville and all the volunteers," Holmes said.
Next year's Hogeye Marathon will be run on March 29, 2015.
