First Thursday

People from across Northwest Arkansas will make their way to Fayetteville Thursday night (April 10) to join in on First Thursday.

The family-friendly event is an outdoor art walk with more than 40 visual artists. There are performances, poetry-related activities and live music. It’s a free event on the Fayetteville Downtown Square.

Leonard said the amount of people who attend help the local economy.

“A lot of the stores stay open later and everyone is really great about getting in the spirit and participating,” Leonard said.

“We have a lot of non-profits that come and set up booths, all the restaurants are packed. We really feel like it brings a lot of people that wouldn’t necessarily come on a week night,” she said.

Leonard said they’re moving and expanding the beer garden.

“This year we are moving the beer garden to the patio of the old post office so the kids zone will now be where the beer garden was last year on East Avenue,” Leonard said. “Other than that we’ll still have the art walk, the music stage will be bigger and better than ever and all of the great things are staying.”

The event was originally scheduled for last Thursday (April 3). However, organizers had to postpone the event due to severe weather moving through the area. Organizers said that because they had to push the event back, the original art walk artists and musical acts could change based on availability.

The First Thursday festivities start at 5:30 p.m. and will last until 9 p.m.

First Thursday will run through October, during the First Thursday of every month.
