While most locals look forward to the annual Springfest for the bed races, dog parade, vendors and pancake breakfast, businesses on Dickson Street say they look forward to the boost in sales.

"50 percent increase...that's what we are expecting," said business owner Sherri Simpkins.

She owns Aqua Fire on Dickson Street and said the timing of this year's festival could not be better. She said the warm spring weather combined with Easter weekend made for a great weekend for her books.

"Our restaurant sold out for brunch because of Easter weekend, so I'm sure this will contribute to a great Saturday as well," Simpkins said.

Many business owners said they thought the long winter helped get people out today in the sunshine.

"Everybody's excited for warm weather and just be able to get out and do stuff like this, so we've had a lot more traffic and it's been better for everybody I think," said business owner Candi Angleton.

Angleton owns Wild Heart Designs and said she has seen a definite increase in patrons.

Organizers of Springfest said they estimated five or six thousand visited the festival Saturday.

Last year's Springfest was postponed due to a late snow in early May. Saturday's (April 19) weather was in the mid-70s and sunny for all of the festival.
