A Springdale man was released from jail Monday after police said he tried to run over two people and shot one with an air soft pistol.

Lamarcus Wright, 21, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of aggravated assault. He was released Monday from the Washington County Detention Center on $7,500 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

His arraignment is scheduled for May 21.

Fayetteville police responded Sunday afternoon to a report of a shooting near the intersection of Mitchell Street and Eastern Avenue. Officers spoke to one of the victims at the scene, who said Wright tried to run over him and another person on the sidewalk. Both jumped out of the way and began running, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Wright allegedly got out of the car and pointed a black pistol at the victim, but the gun did not go off, the victim told police. Police later determined the victim was struck by an air soft gun, which shoots plastic pellet-like projectiles, according to the preliminary report.

Wright got back into his car and drove off, but not before one of the victims broke the back right window of his vehicle, police said. The victim shot by the air soft gun had a quarter-sized bruise on his right shoulder and complained of stinging, the report states.

Police arrested Wright less than two hours later on Wedington Drive in Fayetteville.
