A Fayetteville man was arrested over the weekend at a KFC after robbing a local FedEx location, police say. The suspect allegedly told police he robbed FedEx after asking how to apply for a job there.

Todd Lankford, 22, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of aggravated robbery and theft of property. He remained Monday in the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

He has an arraignment date of May 21.

Fayetteville police received a call around 8:30 p.m. Sunday about a man who had robbed a FedEx on North College Avenue. Video footage showed the robber to be Todd Lankford, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

Officers received information Lankford may be at a local KFC, and police responded to the restaurant location. Responding officers found Lankford and asked him what happened at FedEx, to which Lankford answered that he “robbed the place,” police said.

Police did not find any weapons on the suspect, but they found $237 in cash. He told officers $40 was hit, and the rest was from FedEx, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

Lankford told police he went for a walk while thinking about how much money he needed for court costs. He went to FedEx and asked how to apply for a job there. When the FedEx employee asked him if he needed anything else, Lankford allegedly said, “Yes, give me all the money in the register.”

After fleeing FedEx with the money, Lankford went to KFC and asked the staff to call the police on him, according to the preliminary report.
