Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark., was discharged from Mercy Medical Center in Rogers on Sunday evening (April 28) as he continues recovering from last week’s heart surgery, according to his office.

Boozman is in close contact with his office, monitoring tornado recovery efforts in Central Arkansas, according to a news release from his office..

He said in the release his “thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones in this devastation.”

“Arkansans have always come together in the most difficult times to help neighbors in need,” he said in the release. “It’s clear that commitment continues today.”

Boozman is  under doctor’s orders to rest as he regains his strength, according to the release.

Boozman, a 63-year-old former University of Arkansas football player, was in Rogers visiting family when taken to a hospital, said spokeswoman Sara Lasure.

He had surgery April 22 after being diagnosed with an acute aortic dissection.
