Six Fayetteville food trucks on Thursday won the right to set up in public spaces.
Fayetteville is home to many mobile food vendors, but city leaders voted to allow a limited number to set up in public spaces, such as on any street or in any city park. Six winners were chosen from among 17 applicants in the food truck lottery.
The six winners include Dianne Williams, Jimmy Whitehead, Daniel Davis, Fred Ginn and Toula Abuhamdar. Jeanette Bellram and Clayton Scott also won for their business.
Whitehead runs the Just A Smoker food truck, while Bellram and Scott own the Best Frickin Chicken In Town food truck. Davis runs the Jack Frosting mobile food truck.
The city began accepting applications for the lottery on April 17 and drew the winners Thursday.
With the permit, the food truck has to be mobile. Depending on the location, they can stay up to four hours before they have to move to a different spot.
The ordinance prohibits mobile food vendors from parking in front of a restaurant. Its rules include complying with county health laws and paying a $100 fee.
The food truck lottery is part of a new ordinance passed by the City Council in March.
