A man drowned in a pond north of Lamar, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was identified as Michael Mee, 35, the news release states.

Johnson County Coroner Dave Cogan pronounced the man dead at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday (May 7) as a result of drowning at a pond north of Lamar, according to the news release.

Authorities received a call at 3:36 p.m. from family members who stated they found him in a pond where he had been trimming weeds around the water, the news release states.

Family members pulled him from the edge of the pond and performed CPR until first responders arrived. Authorities said it appeared the man slipped on the pond bank and struck his head on a stump near the edge of the water, according to the news release.

The body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the exact cause of death, the news release states.
