The city of Fayetteville is encouraging local residents to consider alternate transportation to their jobs with “Bike To Work Day” on Friday (May 16).

Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan will read a proclamation Thursday (May 15) evening to celebrate “Bike To Work Day” on Friday.

There will be a community bike ride and prizes for bicycle commuters as part of the Northwest Arkansas Bike Challenge.

Trails coordinator Matt Mihalevich rides his bike to work. He said this event promotes the 25 miles of trails the city has and a healthy alternative.

“We’re really looking at how the trails and how this infrastructure can help with transportation as far as keeping the amount of cars that there are on the road. Maybe we don’t have to widen the road,” he said.

The community bike ride and proclamation reading will start Thursday tonight at 5:30 p.m.
