Bentonville Tops Har-Ber For 7A Championship

Tigers score three times in second half to overcome conference rival for championship

Har-Ber's magical run through the 7A boys soccer tournament came to an end Saturday in the state championship match.

Bentonville's Josh Howard found the back of the net early in the second half as the Tigers then pulled away for a 3-0 win at Razorback Field.

The Tigers got insurance goals from Wyatt D'Spain and Tolliver Davis to secure the second soccer championship of the day for Bentonville. The Lady Tigers also took the girls championship on Saturday.

"We knew if we could get that first could it was going to be massive," Bentonville coach Michael Devaney said.  "A bit of good fortune for that first goal but then it played out how we thought it would. They had to come out and we could counter them a little bit with our speed."

Har-Ber pulled upsets of a No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in the state tournament but could not put together a solid offensive run at the Tigers on Saturday.

"I couldn't be prouder of a group of kids," Har-Ber coach Nelson Medina said. "They were fantastic and resilient. there is no shame is losing to a Bentonville team that is just that organized, attention to detail. Devaney has done a great job with that program and you just have to tip your cap to them."
