The victim in a Bentonville stabbing has been identified, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The victim was identified as Steven "Kasey" Harmon, 26.
One person was hospitalized and another was behind bars after the late night stabbing at a barbeque Sunday night (May 25) in Bentonville.
Nathan Stines, 22, is being held without bond at the Benton County Jail and faces a felony charge of first-degree battery, said Lt. Randy Wood of the Bentonville Police Department.
The stabbing happened around 8:15 p.m. at 2319 S.W. 17th St, Wood said. When authorities arrived at the site, they said they found the victim injured.
5NEWS spoke to a woman who said the victim is her son-in-law. She said he was stabbed seven times.
"He has a 70 percent chance of recovering, but he may lose the use of his left arm," she said.
The woman said her son-in-law was taken to a local hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries.
"He had two pneumothoraces today, which is a collapsed lung," she said. "They are keeping him in medically induced coma to try and get that under control."
Police found Stines later Sunday night and arrested him in connection to the stabbing, Wood said.
Ricco Ware lives next door to the home where the stabbing happened. Ware said he has known Stines for ten years and is surprised by what took place. He said he believes Stines is a good person who was just hanging out with the wrong crowd.
"I don't think he is the type of person to stab somebody unprovoked," he said.
Ware said Stines actually stopped by his house Sunday afternoon and wrote him a note. He said the note read, "I love you guys and I'm being good, so don't worry." Ware said he also received a text message from Stines after the stabbing happened.
Other neighbors are still shaken up by the stabbing and said they plan to take extra safety precautions.
"I'm a parent and I wouldn't want any of my children hurt like that," said Anne Whittington. "I wouldn't want any of my grandchildren hurt like that, not my great grandchildren either. It's very hard on that family, I'm sure."
"It makes you take stock of who you have around you and what you have to do to protect yourself and your family," said Jim Ferry.
