arkansas

Arkansas had seen some of the best pitchers in the country in the SEC. They saw another one in Virginia’s Nathan Kirby.

The left-handed sophomore struck out nine and allowed just one hit in eight innings of work as No. 1 seed Virginia topped No. 2 seed Arkansas 3-0.

The Razorbacks face No. 4 seed Bucknell Sunday at noon in an elimination game.

Virginia quickly jumped on Arkansas starter Trey Killian as Mike Papi launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. Killian was pulled in the third inning after allowing seven hits and told reporters after the game he developed a blister on his throwing hand.

Bucknell eliminated Liberty Saturday afternoon, 5-2.

Virginia will face the winner of Sunday afternoon’s game between the Hogs and Bison. Either Arkansas or Bucknell would have to defeat Virginia twice to advance out of the Charlottesville regional.
