The Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority Monday morning (June 2) approved the sale of 30 acres of land to ArcBest Corporation, a freight transportation company.

ArcBest Corporation has plans to construct a new facility to serve as a new corporate headquarters on the land.

They plan on adding 975 jobs over the next seven years as part of the Fort Smith land purchase.

The corporation was also given the option to purchase an additional ten acres of land if they wanted to. The new building will be constructed by the amphitheater near Massard Road.

Executive Director Ivy Owen said leaders also approved a $3.8 million agreement with the city of Fort Smith to construct streets in that area.
