Two Hogs Invited To Play In Walmart NW Arkansas Championships

Two Hogs selected to play among the professionals in Walmart Championships.

University of Arkansas junior-to-be Gabriela Lopez and recent graduate Emily Tubert will be joining the professionals, including former Hog and number one in the world player Stacy Lewis, as sponsorship exemptions at the 2014 Walmart NW Arkansas Championships on June 23rd-29th.

“We are excited to be able to offer both Gaby and Emily a spot in the tournament this year,” said Tournament Director, Harry Hardy. “Both girls had an impressive year as Razorback golfers. Notably, Emily will be making her professional LPGA debut at the tournament, and we are excited to help launch her promising career. We are proud to support our local emerging female golfers, and we look forward to seeing them tested against the best in the world as they compete in our tournament.”

Lopez, a Mexico City, Mexico, native earned her first Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-America honor this week after leading Arkansas to as high as No. 4 in the national polls this season.  Lopez paced the team with a 72.85 stroke average and earned her second All-Southeastern Conference honor this year as well.

“For Gaby, this will be another great indicator for her to test her game and give us great feedback on the things we are working on to prepare her for the LPGA,” Estes-Taylor said.  “Her ultimate goal is to play the tour, and this experience is so valuable in getting her comfortable and ready for the next step in her golf career after she graduates.”

Tubert was recently awarded the Dinah Shore Trophy by the LPGA Foundation.  The three-time All-American wrapped up her career with six career wins, 21 top five finishes and a 72.25 career stroke average.

“It will be a special week for Emily as she makes her professional debut at a place she feels comfortable and a golf course that she knows so well,” Estes-Taylor said.  “This will be an opportunity for her to start her professional career with a spark!”
