A retired Jonesboro police officer was killed in Thursday’s storm that hit northeastern Arkansas, including Craighead County.

Tom Sanford, 74, died after a tree fell into his house during the severe storm, according to the Jonesboro Police Department. Sanford retired from the department in 2001.

Police said there were no other deaths or major injuries in the city, and at least half of city households had no power as of late Thursday afternoon.
