Four more Arkansas baseball players were taken in the Major League Draft Saturday afternoon, upping the total to six.
Junior left-handed pitcher Jalen Beeks was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 12th round, 374th overall.
The Prairie Grove native became an effective starter for the Razorbacks in 2014, posting a 6-4 record and 1.98 earned run average. His ERA was the best among starting pitchers. Beeks allowed two runs or less in 11 of his 13 starts in 2014, and didn’t give up a runs in five of his outings.
Joining Beeks in the Boston organization is junior left-handed pitcher Michael Gunn, selected by the Red Sox in the 16th round, 494th overall.
Gunn posted the lowest earned run average for the Razorbacks last season at 0.74, allowing just three earned runs in 36.2 innings of relief work. He made a team-high 28 appearances from the bullpen and posted a 4-2 record.
Gunn recorded 35 strikeouts and added a team-best seven saves on the year.
Junior first baseman Eric Fisher was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 17th round, 497th overall.
Fisher became one of the top power hitters in the Southeastern Conference during the 2014 season, recording a team-high nine home runs, 45 runs batted in and a .268 batting average.
Fisher ended the year with a 10-game reached-base streak after earning second team All-SEC honors at first base and making an appearance on the All-Defensive Team.
Sophomore right fielder Tyler Spoon was picked by the Oakland A’s in the 36th round.
These players join second baseman Brian Anderson, who was taken 76th overall by the Miami Marlins, and pitcher Chris Oliver, 112 overall to Philadelphia, in the 2014 draft.
