The Van Buren Veterans of Foreign Wars Post conducted a Flag Retirement Ceremony Saturday (June 14) morning at the VFW Post Building in Downtown Van Buren.

VFW members taught local boy scouts flag etiquette and the proper retirement of the nation's flag as well as state and other service flags.

"It expresses a lot about what the actual flag is symbolic for and what it has done for us," said Eckel Rowland, a World War II veteran. "It really rings true when it says there is only old glory flying."

Representatives Gary Deffenbaugh and Charlene Fite were in attendance, along with Van Buren Mayor Bob Freeman and Crawford County Judge John Hall.

The Van Buren VFW is the oldest post in Arkansas.
