After eighteen months of construction, the Fayetteville flyover is nearing completion.

According to Fayetteville City Engineer Chris Brown, the bridge should be completed in the next few weeks.

The project was approved in 2005. City officials tell 5NEWS it took roughly 5 years to design the bridge, and to design surrounding construction.

The bridge will provide the ability for north-bound drivers on College to merge onto west-bound Full Bright Expressway.

Also, the city plans to build access routes to the local shopping center near the Olive Garden.

State senators and city council members are expected to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony in the next few weeks.

5NEWS will keep you posted on the official opening date for the bridge.
