Nine months after leaving the River Valley to go to foreign soil, Captain Tina Sorenson landed in Fort Smith Regional Airport Saturday ready to get back to the classroom.

Soreson was a fifth grade teacher at Mountainburg Middle School, but was unable to teach this year due to the deployment.

“I’ve had quite a few letters written to me while I was away,” Sorenson said, “It was nice to hear from the kids at school.”

She said she missed having her kids in class and she can’t wait to get back to teaching. Sorenson is a captain in the U.S. Army.
